Newsflare. (beta) is a News User Generated content aggregation site that has just recently gone live in the UK.
Users sign up for an account and upload their news related content to the site, which then sells it on their behalf. As with similar services there is a rating system which promotes active and reliable contributors. Once you have reached Pro level you get 80% of the sale price. The website has its own eCommerce front end enabling users to buy licenses for use of any of the footage uploaded. The Academy section of the site is a rich source of information on how to go about optimising your content to ensure it will sell and there is also an Assignment area which offers paid stories.
The Newsflare App is available on the App Store for free and it includes a camera/record/upload feature as well as a geotagged map for all active stories. If you are a freelance journalist with an iPhone and you’d like to dip your toe into the UGC /Crowdsourced newsmarket – then you should give it a try.
