MicW introduce the iShotgun microphone for iPhone or DLSR video

UPDATE: According to eMerginguk , the UK MicW distributors, the retail price will be around £220 (inc VAT)

It has only been a few days since I posted the results of my test of the MicW i855 microphone. Hot on its heels Micw has just launched the iShotgun – a rifle microphone for iPhone (or any mobile) and DSLR production.

Initial impressions of this kit are very positive. The Kit includes a rigid Black case with a great selection of accessories including extension cables, a coldshoe shockmount, a windcover, two nifty adapters to allow headphones to be used with the iShotgun and a rather clever 1meter extension boom that can be used with the iShotgun or if you own a Glif/Glif+ you can stick your iPhone on the end instead.

But the most important part is obviously the mic. It is, like the i456 etc, very nicely designed, made of aluminium, matte black finish and the 4 pole connector is absolutely rigid in the body – its feels like a quality product.

I dont know the RRP as of yet but I will update the post once I received it.

Ive just completed an audio test in one of our radio editing booths – Ive embedded it below for you to decide for yourself – but I have to say Im very impressed with this mic. The frequency response is good in the lower to mid range and adequate in the higher frequencies, thankfully hiss is minimal.

This is potentially a valuable addition to your MoJo kit.

At some point in the near future Ill do a sound off between the Sennheiser MKE400, the Rode Video Mic Pro and the iShotgun with sound samples for you to decide which you prefer.

It seems a quite useful device for mobile reporting. What about the price and when it will be possibile to purchase it?

  2. Mr_Forin says:

Wow! Even more expensive than a Rode VideoMic Pro.. :S

  3. Charles Hodgson says:

Think I’d be using it with the curly cable. Quite a lot of leverage going through the iPhone jack with greater chance of breakage if dropped / mishandled
